The Game-Changer: Louisiana Roofing Grant (LFHP) Reopens

Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’ve been watching the news or checking your inbox, you’ve probably seen a few mentions of a Louisiana roofing grant—the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (or LFHP for short). Over here at Jim Olivier’s Roofing Louisiana, we’ve been getting a lot of calls, and we’d love to give you answers…

So… What’s this Louisiana roofing grant all about and how can I take advantage?

We get it. For some, this is a huge opportunity to transform your home—and save you a bundle.

In the simplest terms, the LFHP is a state grant program offers up to $10,000 to help Louisiana homeowners upgrade their roofs to the FORTIFIED Roof Standard. Developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), its goal is to help homes better withstand hurricane-force winds and get a head start on storm season.

Here’s Why It Matters Right Now

First: The LFHP is about to reopen, and it’s not a “first-come, first-served” system anymore. It’s a lottery—offering a fair shot for everyone who qualifies.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12.

If you are already on the waiting list and you’re eligible, you’re automatically in the lottery.

But if you’ve missed it before (or didn’t even know it existed)—this could be your moment.

Who Qualifies for this Louisiana Roofing Grant?

The eligibility checklist looks like this:

  • Primary residence only, with a homestead exemption confirmed.
  • Must have an active homeowners policy with wind coverage. If you’re in a FEMA-designated flood zone, flood insurance is also required.
  • NO new builds, condos, or mobile homes.
  • You need to pass an evaluation by a FORTIFIED-certified Evaluator who ensures the house is in “good repair” and suitable for upgrades.
  • Once selected, you’ll need bids from at least three LFHP-approved contractors, and the work must meet IBHS requirements.

AND HERE’S THE KICKER… this round is limited to residents of Louisiana’s Coastal Zone and of Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Westlake.

How It Works — Step by Step

Want to know how this Louisiana Roofing Grant works? You can check out the website for more details, but here are the 5 basic steps.

  1. Register online within the 10-day registration window. Fill out your profile and submit documents like your insurance and homestead exemption.
  2. If selected in the lottery, you’ll receive conditional approval and 30 days to prove eligibility.
  3. Hire an approved FORTIFIED Evaluator. They’ll assess your home and generate a list of required upgrades.
  4. Get quotes from three approved contractors.
  5. Complete the work—up to $10,000 is paid directly to the contractor after compliance and final inspection.

Why This Louisiana Roofing Grant is a Game-Changer

    • Stronger, safer homes: Upgrades include things like sealed roof decks, ring-shank nails, and durable drip edges for better wind resistance
    • Insurance discounts: A certified FORTIFIED Roof can earn you savings on premiums—and that certificate can transfer if you sell.
    • $10,000 grant: That’s serious support for protecting your biggest investment.
    • Peace of mind: Knowing your roof is built to withstand severe weather isn’t just smart—it’s life-changing.

    What You Should Do

Unfortunately, Roofing Louisiana customers don’t qualify for the Louisiana Roofing Grant this round, as we don’t serve the qualified area. HOWEVER, if your primary residence is in Louisiana’s Coastal Zone, Lake Charles, Sulphur, or Westlake…

    • Don’t wait: Register online between September 2 and 12.
    • Get your docs ready beforehand: Homestead exemption, insurance declarations, etc.
    • Prep for the process: Now that you know you’ll need an evaluator and an approved contractor lined up, do some research. Make sure you can take full advantage if you are chosen.

    Final Thoughts

Louisiana’s LFHP is more than a grant—it’s a game-changer. It’s designed to help Louisiana homeowners to stand stronger against storms. If you are in the qualified area, and looking to upgrade your roof, don’t miss out on this with state support. If a fortified, insurance-verified roof sounds like smart planning—you’re absolutely right.

AGAIN, Roofing Louisiana DOES NOT serve the limited area this round, but keep a lookout for a round in the future. And if you want to follow the FORTIFIED standards on your next replacement, or learn how our quality products and installation help your roof last, schedule a free inspection. Give us a call or fill out a form, and we’ll come by at your convenience.

So, the bad news: no Louisiana roofing grant for Alexandria, Iberville, or Lafayette areas this go around.

But, the good news: You don’t have to win a lottery to enjoy a Red Carpet Experience and sleep better with solid roof warranties from Roofing Louisiana.
